This series uses the FantasyLabs Tools to analyze three key MLB players in the day’s slate.
Charlie Morton: Pitcher, Astros
As -215 moneyline favorites, Morton and the Astros are the slate’s largest favorites on Monday night. He has the pleasure of pitching at home, where pitchers have historically been more consistent. Per our Trends tool, home pitchers with comparable moneyline odds have historically averaged 37.81 FanDuel points with a +5.59 Plus/Minus and a 65.8% Consistency Rating:
The Orioles have a slate-low implied run total of 3.6 runs, and their projected lineup has a strikeout rate of 26.8%. Morton posted an excellent 10.12 SO/9 last season, and he did an amazing job of limiting home runs (0.87 HR/9) thanks to his elite 52% ground-ball rate. He currently sits atop the Bales Player Model on FanDuel with a 98% Bargain Rating and a high projected ownership rate of 26-30%.
Justin Smoak: First Baseman, Blue Jays
With the Lineup Builder, it’s easy to incorporate stacks into DFS rosters. The Blue Jays own the top stack on FanDuel in the Bales Player Model. They’re implied for 5.3 runs, which is the second-highest mark on the slate.
Rostering Smoak might feel like point chasing since he hit two home runs yesterday against the Yankees, but he’s still a good option. Smoak hits right-handed pitching well, as he’s sporting a .361 weighted on-base average (wOBA) and a .263 isolated power (ISO) against righties over the past 12 months. White Sox starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez last season allowed a slate-high fly ball rate of 48%.
Rafael Devers: Third Baseman, Red Sox
Per our Vegas Dashboard, the Red Sox have a top-three Team Value Rating on FanDuel. They’re implied for 5.1 runs, which is the third-highest implied total on the main slate.
Devers is an exciting 21-year-old prospect projected to hit fifth for the Red Sox. He played 59 games for the Red Sox last season, finishing with a respectable .329 wOBA and .215 ISO against right-handed pitchers. Overall, Devers had solid statcast data in 2017 with a batted ball average of 210 feet, exit velocity of 90 miles per hour, and hard-hit rate of 34%. He’ll be squaring off against 24-year-old Trevor Richards, who is making his first major-league start.
