PGA DFS: Top Cash Game Picks for the Wyndham Championship on DraftKings

Following Scottie Scheffler’s incredible gold medal win at the Olympics, the PGA TOUR season continues this week with the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club (par 70, 7,131 yards, Bermuda greens) in Greensboro, North Carolina. Since 2008, this Donald Ross-designed course has been the home of the Wyndham Championship, and Lucas Glover is the defending champion of this event, winning by two strokes last year at -20. This week’s field features 156 golfers, and there will be a standard top-65 and ties cut after the first 36 holes. The Wyndham Championship is the final event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs start next week at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and only the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will qualify for that playoff-opening event.

The PGA DFS Breakdown offers data-driven analysis for each week’s slate, using the FantasyLabs Tools and metrics to highlight notable golfers.

I’ll be highlighting the best cash game/single-entry plays on the DraftKings main slate, but these players are often great options in any contest.

My analysis will frequently reference Strokes Gained, a set of proprietary metrics generated by the PGA TOUR using millions of data points to calculate how many shots, on average, it takes a player to get the ball in the hole from every distance and situation.

Strokes Gained is now available in the FantasyLabs PGA Models.

There are a variety of Strokes Gained-related metrics, but the six main categories you need to know include:

  • Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (SG: Off-the-Tee)
  • Strokes Gained: Approach (SG: Approach)
  • Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green (SG: Around-the-Green)
  • Strokes Gained: Putting (SG: Putting)
  • Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking (SG: Ball-Striking), which is SG: Off-the-Tee + SG: Approach
  • Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green (SG: Tee-to-Green), which is SG: Ball-Striking + SG: Around-the-Green

Don’t forget to check out two key metrics in our models — Perfect% and SimLeverage. You can find an explainer on those metrics here.

The cliff notes version is that you can use SimLeverage to quickly find leverage plays in tournaments, while Perfect% is great for finding the best price-considered plays for cash games.

And don’t forget to utilize our various PGA DFS tools like our Lineup OptimizerLineup Builder, PGA Correlation Dashboard, and our Trends tool.

DraftKings $10,000+ Range

Sunjae Im ($10,700) – Im is in sensational form and should have been priced over $11,000, considering the weak competition he faces this week. The 26-year-old is coming off a T7 at the Open Championship, and he has notably finished inside the top-12 in eight of his past 10 starts. Im has gained strokes in every major category in three of his past four starts, and he has carded three top-10 finishes in five appearances at Sedgefield, including a runner-up in 2022. Im is in prime position to secure his third PGA TOUR win this weekend, and starting your cash game lineup with him needs to be a priority.

DraftKings $9,000 Range

Davis Thompson ($9,200) – Thompson is a tremendous spend this week. Most notably, with a four-shot victory at the John Deere Classic, the 25-year-old has finished inside the top 10 in three of his past five starts. In addition to that convincing win, Thompson’s two other top 10s during this stretch both came at Ross-designed courses, which is excellent news with Sedgefield up next. When we analyze this field’s results at venues designed by Ross this season, Thompson ranks first in Strokes Gained per round by a comfortable margin, via the Rabbit Hole. The budding star posted a solid T22 at Sedgefield a year ago, but Thompson is a far better player now, and he should finish inside the top 10 this weekend. Heading to Sedgefield this week, Thompson sits 61 spots higher in the world golf rankings than when he teed it up at Sedgefield last year.

Min Woo Lee ($9,000) – Lee has finished T26th or better in six of his last eight starts, including a runner-up finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which was played at another Ross design in Detroit Golf Club. Lee has finished T21st or better in each of his last three starts at a Ross creation, and he is averaging an elite 2.1 strokes gained per round across these three starts, via the Rabbit Hole. Lee is clearly a big fan of Ross’ courses, and he should make some serious noise in his debut at Sedgefield this week, especially when you factor in that he needs to have a strong performance to stay inside the bubble for the FedEx Cup Playoffs next week. Currently, Lee ranks 62nd in the FedEx Cup standings, and a poor finish at the Wyndham Championship would likely push him outside the top 70.

DraftKings $8,000 Range

Cam Davis ($8,900) – Davis is in compelling form and is always a sharp target at a Ross track. Davis has finished 1st, T26th, and T19th in his last three starts, and that win came at the Ross-designed Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which is notably Davis’ second win at the course. The 29-year-old’s resume at Sedgefield is also impressive, with no finishes worse than T22nd in three starts, including a career-best T7 last season. Davis has gained strokes on approach in three straight starts and absolutely has the potential to produce another top-10 finish at Sedgefield this weekend.

Christian Bezuidenhout ($8,700) – Bezuidenhout has never missed a cut at Sedgefield in three starts, and the South African is fresh off a 16th-place finish at the Paris Olympics last week, including a 7-under 64 in the third round, which was two strokes away from tying the lowest score of the event. Excluding his first-round withdrawal from the Genesis Scottish Open, Bezuidenhout has finished inside the top 25 in four of his last six starts and he is underpriced for his odds to win the Wyndham Championship this weekend. On the DraftKings Sportsbook, Bezuidenhout carries +3500 odds to win this tournament, which are the same odds as Jordan Spieth, who is notably more expensive for DFS at $9,500.

DraftKings $7,000 Range

Max Greyserman ($7,600) – Greyserman has caught fire recently, finishing inside the top 35 at six straight tournaments, with the highlight of this run being runner-up at the 3M Open in his most recent start. At TPC Twin Cities that week, Greyserman gained strokes in every major category and closed the event with an 8-under 63, which tied for the lowest score of the 3M Open and set a new career-low for Greyserman on the PGA TOUR. The 29-year-old has only shot over par once in his last 20 rounds and should thrive in his debut at Sedgefield this week. While a limited sample, Greyersman has gained strokes in six of his eight rounds at Ross-designed venues thus far in his career on the PGA TOUR. If you weren’t already sold on Greyserman, he also should be highly motivated this week, with him sitting 64th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Taylor Moore ($7,500) – Moore has finished T5th and T22nd at the last two Wyndham Championships, and he is on the heels of a T12 at the 3M Open. Outside of his driver, Moore gained strokes in every major category during this finish, and he just finished T10th at Detroit Golf Club last month, which, as noted above, is another Ross design. Moore has provided seven top-25 finishes this season and is an appealing value at this salary. For last year’s Wyndham Championship, Moore was priced at $8,000.

Adam Svensson ($7,400) – Svensson is a no-brainer for cash games this week. The Canadian has only missed two cuts in his last 15 starts, and he has yet to miss a cut at Sedgefield in three appearances at the track, including a T7 last season. Svensson has been a consistent iron player – he ranks 40th in SG: Approach this season – and he ranks third in 400-450-yard par-4 efficiency when we analyze this field’s last 24 rounds, which bodes extremely well for Sedgefield. Eight of the 12 par 4s at this par 70 land between 400-450 yards, and four of the last five winners at Sedgefield have finished the event top three in efficiency on these specific holes.

Matt Kuchar ($7,300) – At the 3M Open two weeks ago, Kuchar finished T3rd, thanks to an incredible showing with his irons. The veteran led the entire field with a whopping 10.1 strokes on approach, which is the most strokes Kuchar has ever gained in the major category. With this being the sixth straight start the 46-year-old has gained strokes on approach, Kuchar has clearly found something with his ball striking, and if this trend can continue at Sedgefield, the nine-time PGA TOUR winner should have no issues advancing through the cut. In his last two appearances at this par 70, Kuchar has finished T29th in 2021 and T38th last season.

DraftKings $6,000 and Below Range

Ben Kohles ($6,900) – Kohles has only missed two cuts in his last 12 starts, and he has played well when facing a Ross course during this timeframe, with a T56 at Pinehurst No.2 for the U.S. Open and a T20 at Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Kohles has made 2-of-3 cuts at Sedgefield, and his accurate driver sets him up perfectly for his return to the track this week. Kohles ranks second in driving accuracy this season and four of the past five victors at Sedgefield have finished the tournament top five in fairways found.

Matthew Nesmith ($6,700) – Nesmith has a ton of appeal at this sub $7K salary. The veteran has made the cut at three of the last four Wyndham Championships, and he has finished runner-up, MC, and T9th in his last three starts. That last outing came at the 3M Open, and during that finish at TPC Twin Cities, Nesmith gained strokes in every major category for the first time this season. Looking to build off this showing, Nesmith should, at the minimum, make the cut this week.
