What’s a Sharpe Again?
A Sharpe for the purposes of fantasy tells us “who is consistently outperforming their Salary taking risk into account?” The risk measure we are using is the standard deviation of the player’s weekly scores. For those in Finance, you’ll see that this is not a true Sharpe ratio in terms of “portfolio management,” but merely a different take in measuring a player’s production against his risk. If you did not get a chance to read my article a couple of weeks ago, here is the link.
Before we dive into this week’s Sharpes, I’m going to lay out how we are going to look at them. First, we will look at the top five for Week 11 at each position. I believe the best way to use this information is for cash games. When I say that, I don’t think an entire cash game lineup should be built out of only these guys – player Sharpes are used to supplement your cash game lineups. After the weekly Sharpes, we’ll take a look at the players consistently outperforming salary throughout the season.
Note: This is DraftKings only.
Week 11 QBs
It’s hard to make an argument to not start Carson Palmer in cash games this year. This week isn’t any different. He pretty much defines consistency and outperforming salary at the QB position this year. Honestly, I don’t love Matthew Stafford on this list. He is cheap and has a good matchup, but it’s Matthew Stafford. I do love him in tournaments, but not so much in cash.
Week 11 RBs
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been burnt way too much by McFadden in season-long over the past to ever trust that he’s not going to get hurt again. Be very wary of playing him this week in cash. Personally, if I don’t hear the words “100% healthy” by game time, I probably won’t be playing him. A big reason for that is because Charcandrick West is an easy pivot. I kept TJ Yeldon on here, who put up a dud on Thursday night.
Week 11 WRs
You can be sure that Amendola will be locked into a ton of cash lineups at his price (upwards of 28% in the Thursday tournament on FanDuel). An argument can be made that Stevie Johnson might be an equal or even better cash option. I’m more of a fan of the remaining wide receivers for tournaments.
Week 11 TEs
One thing I like to look at are guys who have had a good seasonal Sharpe along with a good upcoming Sharpe. Eric Ebron and Richard Rodgers fit the bill there.
Next we are going to show the players who have consistently outperformed their salary taking risk into account.
