Welcome back for Week 3. Anyone know of some good Survivor Revival pools?! It’s been a disappointing start for my Survival teams, with the Ravens losing at home last week. If you have managed to make it through to Week 3 a big congratulations is in order. Below are my thoughts on how to handle NFL Week 3 survivor polls with three of my top picks.
Current Record (3-3)
Best NFL Week 3 Survivor Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the Panthers making a QB change, and the Patriots looking much better than we thought, the Broncos are looking like a bottom-three team in the league right now and could overtake the Panthers as the worst team in the league if Andy Dalton can make their offense functional. After a good preseason showing, Bo Nix is really having some trouble adjusting to the regular season and is going to have his hands full with a Todd Bowles-led defense that held the Lions in check last week. Not only are the Broncos inept on offense through two games, but it’s carrying over to the defense as well, which is PFF’s4th worst graded unit through two games.
The Buccaneers do have two games against the Panthers and a game against the Giants later this year, but I’m willing to burn them this week at home, as they won’t pop up on your Survivor radar again until Week 12.
Survivor Pick Option 2: Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders let Gardner Minshew cook in the 2nd half of last week’s game in Baltimore and were rewarded with a stellar road victory that knocked a lot of people (myself included) out of their Survivor leagues. It seems to me like the Raiders have quickly adjusted to having one of the worst ground games in recent NFL history, and are going more pass-centric with DaVante Adams and Brock Bowers. Adams should eat this week as the coverage scheme heavily favors him, while it’s immediately clear that Brock Bowers is an elite receiving threat from the jump and almost unrecoverable in today’s NFL. The Panthers did move to Andy Dalton this week, which should make the offense at least functional, but they also have a horrific defense with no playmakers and should allow the Raiders to put up some easy points.
If they continue to play well, the Raiders have some usable games in the near future with road games against the Broncos and Rams not far away, but at home against the Panthers completely inept defense, they make a great play this week as well.
Survivor Pick Option 2: San Francisco 49ers
Even without CMC and Deebo Samuel, and a home against the Patriots awaiting them next week, I am giving heavy consideration to the 49ers against an injury-riddled Rams team on the road. The Rams’ offensive line is in shambles right now due to injuries, which is further exacerbated by both Puka Nuka and Cooper Kupp being out at WR. There will be no protection for Matthew Stafford this week against a SF pass rush, and no reliable targets to throw to. I’m expecting a big game from Jordan Mason in the run game and for Kittle and Aiyuk to dominate when SF throws the football. The Rams might not get into the endzone in this one, the offense’s outlook really is bleak.
I’d much rather use the 49ers this week than against a Patriots team next week that has shown some fight, and after that game, you may not want to use the 49ers again this season unless injuries start taking a toll on their opponents as the season moves on.
