Top Model Quarterback Ceiling Projections
Patrick Mahomes ($7,200 DraftKings; $8,700 FanDuel)
It’s unsurprising to see Mahomes at the top of our ceiling projections. He was dominant last season, averaging 27.99 DraftKings points per game, along with an average +8.49 Plus/Minus. Mahomes and the Chiefs piled on 30 points against this Jacksonville team last year, and Mahomes turned in a solid 20.82-point fantasy outing.
I’d expect more of the same in Week 1 given the Chiefs’ slate-high 28 implied team total. Further, this Jaguars defense has gotten worse in the offseason. Stud LB Telvin Smith retired, they lost both starting safeties in Barry Church and Tashaun Gipson and DT Malik Jackson joined the Eagles.
The benefit of Mahomes is he comes with a high floor and high ceiling each week, no matter the opponent. In 2018, he was one of three quarterbacks to average over 300 passing yards per game (min. 100 attempts), and his 8.8 yards per attempt was the second-best mark in the league.
