NFL DFS Picks: Top OwnersBox Plays in Week 17

OwnersBox is one of the unique DFS sites that still has traditional daily salary cap contests in addition to their Lightning Lineups contests.

In Lightning Lineups, the OwnersBox app will provide three sets of lineups for a given sport and slate, each lineup with three players. From there, users pick which lineup they think will score the most points. If you don’t like the options, you can spin for new lineups.

Spin. Pick. Win. OwnersBox innovative Lighting Lineups format is the most electric way to play daily fantasy sports.

Another reason to sign up with OwnersBox is their current Big Game Giveaway promotion. When you enter a lineup, you’ll earn “giveaway entries” for their Big Game drawing. What can you win? Two FRONT ROW tickets to Super Bowl LVIII + a VIP Fan Experience + Meet & Greets + Flights & Accommodations — over $40K in value!

Also, our OwnersBox promo code delivers new users a $500 sign-up offer. Their 100% deposit match up to $500 is by far the best among DFS sites.

Anyway, this article will focus on the more traditional salary cap DFS lineups that we’re all accustomed to. The best part about OwnersBox is their DFS product is a Superflex format with no defense.

I’ll be highlighting my favorite play at each position using our NFL projections inside our NFL Player Models.

NFL DFS Quarterback Pick

Jalen Hurts ($7,600) vs. Arizona Cardinals

Sometimes in DFS, the saying “you get what you pay for” rings true, and this week, our projections indicate that will be the case with quarterbacks in general and Jalen Hurts specifically. Hurts is the most expensive quarterback on the 13-game Sunday slate, but he also brings the highest Pts/Sal of any player on the entire slate, which is especially important with the OwnersBox Superflex format.

Hurts edges out Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes for the top spot in what is truly a star-studded quarterback player pool.

Last week, Hurts and the Eagles beat the Giants in the middle game of the Christmas Day tripleheader. Hurts threw for 301 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score for a good fantasy day, even though the Eagles offense still doesn’t seem to be quite as efficient as it was earlier this season. They snapped a three-game losing streak with that win, though, and will look to stay in the race for the top seed with a win this week over the Cardinals.

Arizona should be a great matchup for Hurts since opposing quarterbacks have torn them up all season long. Opposing quarterbacks have thrown multiple touchdowns in three of the last five weeks and have totaled 27 passing touchdowns in 15 games while averaging 231.5 passing yards per game. On the ground, opposing quarterbacks have averaged 20 yards per game and added five more touchdowns.

Hurts’ recent fantasy success is mostly due to his running success. He set the new NFL record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with his 15th rushing touchdown of the season last week. His passing numbers have been up and down, with two big games of 301 and 298 mixed in with four performances of 200 yards or fewer in his six games since the bye week.

His rushing potential in this soft matchup is enough to make him the best quarterback play on the board, and he has the upside to go off in the passing game, too, in this “get right” matchup.

NFL DFS Running Back Pick

Christian McCaffrey ($7,900) at Washington Commanders

The 49ers are also looking for a “get right” spot after getting beaten badly on Monday night football last week. They have to travel across the country on a short week to Washington, but they have a great matchup against the struggling Commanders to look forward to. Christian McCaffrey has the most Pts/Sal of any running back in our projections and is a strong pay-up option, as usual. He’s only $500 more than the next highest-priced option, but he brings a much higher ceiling and floor.

McCaffrey topped 100 rushing yards in the loss last week and also found the end zone for his league-leading 21st touchdown of the season. On the season, he has averaged 93.0 rushing yards and 35.8 receiving yards on 4.2 catches per game. He has gone for over 100 scrimmage yards in each of his last five weeks and in nine of his last 10 games.

CMC should run wild against Washington. Opposing running backs have eight rushing and receiving touchdowns in the last four weeks against the Commanders and have averaged 98.07 rushing yards and 39.8 receiving yards per game this season.

With such a high ceiling and a high floor, it’s worth paying up for CMC if you can make the salary work. Some strong salary-relief running back plays in our projections include Kenneth WalkerJaylen WarrenJavonte Williams, and Tyjae Spears.

NFL DFS Wide Receiver Pick

Rashee Rice ($5,900) vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Tyreek Hill should get a ton of targets this week and has an extremely high ceiling, but since I’ve gone with the most expensive plays at the position in my first two picks, I’ll go with a very strong midrange option at receiver. Rashee Rice has taken over as the Chiefs’ top receiver over the last few weeks and filled in with almost Tyreek-like plays drawn up for him by Coach Andy Reid.

Rice has the highest Pts/Sal of all receivers this week and is very affordable under $6,000. He has a top-six median and ceiling projection but only the 18th-highest salary of the receivers in our projections.

Over the last few weeks, Rice has become the focus of the Chiefs wide receivers. He has at least nine targets in five straight games and had a season-high 12 targets last week in the Chiefs’ loss to the Raiders. In those five weeks, Rice has averaged 7.6 catches for 78.2 yards per game and has scored three touchdowns.

Rice and the Chiefs will look to bounce back from last week’s loss against the Bengals. The Bengals are a top-five matchup for opposing receivers this season. Last week, the Steelers’ receivers racked up 252 receiving yards and three total touchdowns. On the season, opposing wide receivers have 14 scores in 15 games while averaging team totals of 11.5 catches for 176.3 yards per game.

With so much work coming his way regularly, Rice is a great midrange target in Week 17. If you need an even cheaper play, Chris GodwinWan’Dale Robinson, and DeVante Parker offer strong value, according to our projections.

NFL DFS Tight End Pick

George Kittle ($5,200) at Washington Commanders

Tight end is packed with good value plays, including Trey McBrideIsaiah Likely, and Cole Kmet, but the highest Pts/Sal at the position comes from George Kittle against the Commanders.

Despite his team’s tough loss, Kittle had a good week last week, catching seven passes for 126 yards, his second-highest mark of the season. His production can fluctuate from week to week in an offense with so many options in the passing game, but he has been up to the task when passes come his direction.

On the season, Kittle has six touchdowns and needs just nine yards to reach 1,000 yards receiving for the third season in his career.

He should have no trouble hitting 1,000 yards and keeping on rolling this week since the Commanders have been a neutral matchup for tight ends overall this season. Tight ends have at least four catches against them in each of the last two weeks and have scored a total of five touchdowns on the year.

Kittle has a high projection this week in this spot since the 49ers will need to get their offense back on track. Comparing him to other positions, his Pts/Sal would rank third among wide receivers behind only Rice and his teammate Brandon Aiyuk. If he were eligible at running back, his Pts/Sal would also rank third behind just CMC and Rachaad White. Kittle projects to be a strong play in the Superflex format of OwnersBox and comes at a very reasonable salary of just over $5,000.
