NFL DFS Week 3 Contrarian Plays: The Game to Stack

Once again, five of the seven highest-owned players in DraftKings’ Millionaire Maker tournament — Sammy Watkins, Darren Waller, Josh Jacobs, John Brown and Alvin Kamara  (last week’s DraftKings Fade of the Week) — all scored fewer than 15 points at ownership percentages that ranged from 20.76% all the way up to 39.18% (per our FantasyLabs Ownership tool).

It was a another early-season reminder that while eating the chalk (especially the good chalk) is often a necessary strategy for winning games in daily fantasy football, when playing in ridiculously large-field tournaments like DraftKings’ Millionaire Maker and FanDuel’s Sunday Million, one of the easiest ways to rocket past others on the leaderboard is to pivot from the highest-owned chalk players in favor of other high-upside plays who for whatever reason may be flying under the radar.

Using FantasyLabs’ Leverage score, and our new Buzz Score and Sentiment Ratings from FanShare Sports, I’ll dig through the data to identify those contrarian plays for Week 3.

Loaded Leverage: Week 3 GPP Targets

Quarterback

Checking all the boxes this week on DraftKings is Philip Rivers ($5,800), who is currently coming in with a 91% Leverage score and a paltry 1.8 Buzz Score with a perfect 100% Sentiment rating. The Chargers currently have the eighth-highest implied team points total (25.5) on the main slate and are three-point home favorites.
