This series uses the FantasyLabs Tools to analyze MLB stacks in the day’s slate. The series does not provide play or fade recommendations. It provides analysis.
Minnesota Twins
With the Lineup Builder, it’s easy to incorporate stacks into DFS rosters. Today’s top five-man DraftKings stack courtesy of the Bales Player Model belongs to the Minnesota Twins:
All five of the above batters are on the positive side of their splits, and Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano in particular both mash left-handed pitchers: Their split-adjusted ISOs of .310 and .301 rank among the best marks on the slate. Additionally, over the last 15 days all five batters have outhit their 12-month averages. Sano and Chris Giminez both have distance differentials of greater than 40 feet, and batters with comparable differentials and implied team totals have a historical Plus/Minus of +2.50 on DraftKings (per the Trends tool). Batting seventh, Giminez will likely have lower ownership than his teammates, making him an appealing stacking option for guaranteed prize pools. Pro subscribers can review ownership trends across tournaments of various stakes with our DFS Ownership Dashboard.
Arizona Diamondbacks
The top four-man FanDuel stack in the CSURAM88 Model belongs to the Arizona Diamondbacks, who also have the day’s highest implied team total at 5.2 runs (per the Vegas Dashboard):
Previous batters playing at the hitter-friendly Chase Field with similar implied team totals have a historical Plus/Minus of +1.95 on FanDuel. Gregor Blanco, Paul Goldschmidt, and Brandon Drury all have Bargain Ratings of at least 82 percent, which when added to the previous trend increase the Plus/Minus to +2.76. Goldschmidt in particular stands out as an elite high-priced option with a historical Plus/Minus of +4.37 on FanDuel when facing left-handed pitchers at home. Opposing pitcher Tommy Malone has allowed 2.21 home runs per nine innings over the last 12 months.
Texas Rangers
The top five-man DraftKings Pro Trend stack belongs to the Texas Rangers. Each of the following hitters has at least eight individual Pro Trends, and projected No. 7 hitter Joey Gallo has one of the highest totals of the day at 10:
The Rangers have a strong implied team total of 5 runs, and the batters should benefit from the projected conditions at Arlington. The current weather rating of 81 is the highest mark on the slate, and batters have historically enjoyed a Plus/Minus of +0.63 when playing in comparable conditions. If we add in a comparable number of Pro Trends and implied team total, the Plus/Minus increases to +1.22. Nomar Mazara is in the best recent form of the group — his 232-foot batted ball distance is 28 feet greater than his 12-month average — but his recent Batted Ball Luck Score of 62 suggests he’s been unlucky.
