Sunday’s all-day Major League Baseball slate on FanDuel features 14 games starting at 1:05 pm ET.
Pitchers
The four pitchers projected to score the most fantasy points are:
Max Scherzer (R)
Zach Wheeler (R)
Carlos Rodon (L)
Corbin Burnes (R)
Bales Model projects the pitcher to have the highest ceiling is Max Scherzer from the Washington Nationals. Last time on the mound, Scherzer pitched only 3.2 innings against the San Diego Padres. In that start, he allowed seven earned runs including two home runs. Easily his worst start of the season. Hoping to rebound after the MLB All-Star break, Scherzer and the Nationals will be taking on the Padres once again in the final game of the series. Although the Nationals are currently on a five-game losing streak, they are still only 5.5 games back from the division leading New York Mets.
The pitcher that has the third-most strike outs (145) in Zach Wheeler from the Philadelphia Phillies. Although his record is only 6-5, Wheeler is leading all starting pitchers on his team with a 2.26 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 4.8 WAR. Like Scherzer, Wheeler struggled in his last start. In 5.2 innings, he allowed seven runs on eight hits while striking out only six opposing batters. Wheeler will be on the mound against the Miami Marlins, who rank fourth in team strikeouts (896) in baseball.
A pitcher that is projected for a high fantasy output but is not highly rated on Bales Model is Carlos Rodon from the Chicago White Sox. Rodon has pitched very well through the first half of the MLB season. In 83.2 innings pitched, Rodon has struck out 118 batters, has a 6-3 record, 0.99 WHIP and 2.37 ERA. Although he has been able to limit damage, Rodon has allowed quite a few runners on base recently. Another possible reason to fade Rodon is that he has allowed one or more earned runs in his past eight starts. He will be pitching against the Houston Astros, who lead MLB in runs scored as a team (504 runs) through 93 games played.
The highest-priced pitcher on FanDuel is Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers. As a Brewers fan, this is an amazing sight with a handful of strong aces on the slate. Burnes has been electric through the first half of the MLB season, so he’s truly deserving of this price tag. In 87.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 128 opposing batters while walking only 15 foes. Burnes and the Brewers will be hoping to complete a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds to begin the second half of the season. Another reason to back Burnes is that the Reds are projected for the second lowest implied runs total on the slate (3.6 runs).
Value
If you prefer to save salary to load up with strong batters, here is a list of pitchers worth considering:
Joe Musgrove (R)
Rich Hill (L)
Wade LeBlanc (L)
All three of these pitchers are projected for a high points/salary output on Bales Model. To highlight, the highest rated pitcher on the entire slate is Joe Musgrove from the San Diego Padres. Although Scherzer is on the mound opposing Musgrove, the Padres are only -102 road underdogs. Musgrove is a main reason why this is the case.
Hitters
Notable Stack
The top projected points stack comes to you from the Los Angeles Dodgers at -152 odds:
- Max Muncy (L)
- Justin Turner (R)
- Will Smith (R)
- Cody Bellinger (L)
The Dodgers have the highest projected implied runs total on the slate (6.7 runs) and are hoping to once again benefit from playing at Coors Field. In the first two games of the series the Dodgers have scored a total of 19 runs. Although Mookie Betts left Saturday’s game due to hip irritation, the Dodgers still have a very high-powered offense. On FanDuel, this stack will cost you $16,000 in salary and are projected for a combined 58.2 fantasy points.
Other Hitters
The game outside of the Dodgers vs. Rockies that’s projected for a high implied runs total is between the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers. Projected for 5.6 and 5.1 runs, respectively, this game has a handful of batters that rate highly on Bales Model.
A player that is having a breakout year for the Detroit Tigers is Jonathan Schoop. He is currently on an eight-game hitting streak, which includes three multi-hit games.
Bales Model projects that the highest point/salary batter on the slate for FanDuel is Vidal Brujan from the Tampa Bay Rays. Although he has only one hit in his 12 MLB at bats, he’s a strong name worth considering as he is priced at the FanDuel minimum $2,000 on the schedule.
