Sunday’s main slate features 10 games starting at 1:05 pm ET.
Pitchers
The four pitchers projected for the most fantasy points today are:
Trevor Bauer
Corbin Burnes
Sandy Alcantara
Dylan Cease
Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer has been as good as advertised for the Los Angeles Dodgers this year. Currently Bauer has a 6-3 record, 2.24 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 76.1 innings pitched. The only flaw that stands out on his 2021 stats so far is that he has allowed 13 home runs on 40 hits against. This afternoon, Bauer will be pitching against the Atlanta Braves who lead MLB with 86 home runs in 56 games. A projected 5-mph wind blowing in from right-center field will help pitchers in this game, but I doubt it makes that big of a difference. The Dodgers’ have struggled recently only winning four of their last 10 games and are in desperate need for a big performance by Bauer.
The highest rated pitcher on DraftKings per Bales Model is Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers. Burnes has been electric to start his 2021 campaign as he currently boasts a 2.24 ERA and 0.73 WHIP after 52.1 innings pitched. The Brewers’ righty would not mind a little run support, as his record is only 2-4, even with these outstanding pitching numbers. The Milwaukee Brewers have been hot lately winning eight of their last 10 games, however they are still the only division leader with a negative run differential. This afternoon, Burnes will be pitching against the Arizona Diamondbacks who are projected to have the lowest implied runs total on the slate of 3.1 runs.
Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara has performed well this year for a team that has the worst record in the NL East. Alcantara is deserving of his high fantasy price, because when his game is on, he is elite. Alcantara’s ERA is a bit high at 3.68, however his 1.07 WHIP is on pace to be his career best. This afternoon, Alcantara will be hoping to amend his high ERA against the Pittsburgh Pirates who have the worst record in the NL Central. A strong reason to back the Marlins’ righty is that the Pirates have the third lowest projected runs total on the slate of 3.8 runs.
The highest rated pitched on FanDuel per Bales Model is Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox. Similar to Alcantara, Cease has been inconsistent recently, but he does have some very high scoring fantasy performances this year. Coming off a game against the Cleveland Indians in which he allowed six runs on eight hits, Cease will be hoping to end up back in the win column today. This afternoon, he will be pitching against the Detroit Tigers who are projected for the second lowest implied run total on the slate (3.7 runs).
Value
Dane Dunning from the Texas Rangers is a value play to consider as he will be pitching against the Tampa Bay Rays who are the only team in MLB with over 600 strikeouts (636). In 52 innings pitched, Dunning has struck out 55 opposing batters and will be hoping to increase these numbers today.
Although Chad Kuhl has not performed well this year, Bales Model has the Pirates right-handed pitcher projected to score the most fantasy points per salary on today’s slate for FanDuel. I really like this play as Kuhl is expected to have low ownership, and he will be pitching against the Miami Marlins who are currently on an eight-game losing streak.
Another value pitcher to consider is Bailey Ober from the Minnesota Twins. Ober is the lowest priced pitcher on the slate, and is expected to perform much better than his first outing of the year last month.
Hitters
Notable Stack
Today’s top stack comes to you from the +100 Washington Nationals:
- Trea Turner (R)
- Josh Harrison (R)
- Juan Soto (L)
- Josh Bell (S)
Projected to have the fourth highest implied runs total on the slate of five, the Nationals batters will be hoping to take advantage of Phillies pitcher Vince Velasquez who has really struggled this year. Although his record is 2-1, Velasquez has an ERA of 4.08 and has thrown 25 walks in only 39.1 innings. If the Nationals batters can stay disciplined this afternoon, they could put up a few crooked numbers on the scoreboard. On FanDuel, this stack will cost you $13.5k in salary and is projected for a combined 49.3 fantasy points.
Other Hitters
The highest rated batter on Bales Model for FanDuel is Whit Merrifield from the Kansas City Royals. After struggling for most of the months of April and May, Merrifield is currently on a six-game hitting streak which includes eight RBIs and three stolen bases.
Meanwhile on DraftKings, Bales Model has another infielder as the highest rated batter, Tim Anderson from the Chicago White Sox. Anderson is the lead-off batter for the White Sox who have the highest projected implied runs total on the slate (5.4 runs). He is currently on a four-game hitting streak which includes two multi-hit games.
The highest rated floor play on the slate per Bales Model is Christian Yelich from the Milwaukee Brewers. Yelich has a hit in seven of his last eight games including two home runs in his last three. Hoping to return to his prior MVP form, Yelich has been on the right track recently.
