Five Under Five
Mr. Miyagi
As discussed in this week’s Course Breakdown, Ben Crane has had success at some similar TPC courses. In five events at TPC Southwind and The Old White TPC since 2014, Crane has exceeded his salary-based expectations four times (80.0 percent), averaging a strong +16.20 Plus/Minus on DraftKings:
Moreover, Crane dropped 74.50 DraftKings points at TPC Southwind earlier this month, good for a whopping +25.73 Plus/Minus. Additionally, it’s likely that Crane will keep his tee shots out of trouble this week: Crane is tied for 12th in the field with his 65.6 Driving Accuracy (DA) percentage. If Crane ends up needing to get the ball up and down, his 17th-ranked Long-Term Scrambling (LT SC) percentage (59.7) will help him get the job done. He’s projected for less than two percent ownership in our Models.
A Former U.S. Open Champion
Adam Levitan recently created a video showing how to use our Trends tool to find low-owned golfers. (This video is available to Pro subscribers on our Premium Content Portal.) One of this week’s matches for Levitan’s trend is Lucas Glover, who has missed three of his last four cuts. Even though he is not in great form, Glover is one of the best golfers in this field: He is tied for ninth with his 69.3 LT Adjusted Round Score (Adj Rd Score) and third overall with his 69.4 percent LT Greens in Regulation (GIR). Lucas finished sixth and seventh at THE PLAYERS Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this season. Another top-10 finish is not out of the question.
This Dude Likes Legos
Zac Blair is not in fine form — his 71.2 Recent (Rec) Adj Rd Score ranks near the bottom of the field — but he has the type of game to get around what’s expected to be a tough course. Blair’s 68.3 LT DA percentage is second in the field, and his 60.1 LT SC percentage ranks 15th. While Blair hasn’t finished higher than 40th in his last six events, he does have 12th- and eighth-place finishes on his resume this season.
Sha Na Na
Unlike Blair, Kevin Na is in good form, tied for 19th in the field with his 69.2 Rec Adj Rd Score. Na’s Rec GIR percentage (66.7) and Rec DA percentage (69.7) rank within the top 10, and his 14.5 Rec Adj Bird Avg is 14th overall. In a relatively weak field, it would not be shocking if Na were on the first page of the leaderboard on Sunday: He is tied for 15th in the field with his 69.5 LT Adj Rd Score.
One of the Kims
In researching this week’s Course Breakdown, I noticed that Whee Kim is a perfect 4-for-4 at comparable courses when it comes to meeting salary-based expectations. In fact, Kim has averaged 69.38 DraftKings points per tournament at TPC Southwind and The Old White, putting up a monster 101.5 DraftKings points earlier this month at Southwind, where he finished second. Kim’s putter has been on fire lately: He is tied for seventh in the field with his 27.8 Rec Adjusted Putts Per Round. If Kim can keep the flat stick going this week, he’s likely to surprise a lot of people.
