Five Key NHL Players: Tuesday 10/10

This series uses the FantasyLabs Tools to analyze five key NHL players in the day’s slate. The series does not provide play or fade recommendations. It provides analysis.

Today offers a seven-game main slate that starts at 7:00 pm ET.

Patrick Kane: Winger, Blackhawks ($7,700 DraftKings, $8,700 FanDuel)

Patrick Kane is the highest-rated player in the CSURAM88 Model. Despite being the most expensive player on both sites, Kane presents value in all formats with his high peripheral floor. The former No. 1 overall pick averages 3.54 shots per game, the second-highest total on the slate, and he averages just over 21 minutes of time on ice. Further, the Blackhawks have been dominant offensively so far this season, and Kane has been a key contributor, piling up two goals and four assists through three games. Tonight he takes on a Canadiens team that has surrendered 10 goals and over 31 shots per game through three games.

Tyler Seguin: Center, Stars ($7,000 DraftKings, $8,100 FanDuel)

We mentioned Seguin last week, and his recent performance and place in the CSURAM88 Model has us coming back for more. Through two games, Seguin has fired 18 shots on goal, scoring once in the opener against Las Vegas. The Stars are at home and lead the slate with a -166 moneyline and implied total of 3.1 goals. Seguin leads all players on the slate in shot attempts at 5.02 and all forwards in peripheral stats with 4.12 shots+blocks per game. Players in similar situations have averaged a +0.88 DraftKings Plus/Minus with a 68.8 percent Consistency Rating. Seguin has nine DraftKings and seven FanDuel Pro Trends.

P.K. Subban: Defenseman, Predators ($6,000 DraftKings, $5,700 FanDuel)

With the presumed absence of Roman Josi, his teammate P.K. Subban has the opportunity for an expanded role tonight. Subban will likely slide into the top power play unit, where his offensive abilities can be showcased against a penalty kill that finished in the bottom third of the league last season. The Predators are respectable favorites in their home opener against the Flyers, and they have an implied total of 3.0 goals. Last season, the Predators dominated at home, going 24-9-8 while averaging 3.17 goals. Furthermore, the Flyers are closing out a four-game road trip, which included three games on the west coast. They likely won’t be at their best.

Note: Josi is listed as a game-time decision after missing yesterday’s practice and today’s morning skate. Should he end up playing tonight, Subban’s value would decrease significantly. Before missing the morning skate, Josi was the highest-rated player in the CSURAM88 Model.

Alexander Edler: Defenseman, Canucks ($3,900 DraftKings, $4,700 FanDuel)

Alexander Edler carries a low price, especially on DraftKings, where he leads all players with 10 Pro Trends and has a 94 percent Bargain Rating heading into the second game of the season. Edler has a strong peripheral floor with 4.06 shots+blocks per game and ranks in the 96th percentile in time on ice. As part of Vancouver’s top power play unit, Edler will have opportunities to join the rush against an Ottawa defense that is still playing without Erik Karlsson.

Pekka Rinne: Goaltender, Predators ($8,200 DraftKings, $8,200 FanDuel)

Rinne has an attractive matchup tonight against the Flyers, who in their three road games in California averaged 34.3 shots on goal and were shut out once by the Kings. To help matters, the Predators for the first time this season are playing inside Bridgestone Arena, where they were incredibly strong last season. Rinne could be an especially good play on FanDuel, where he possesses a slate-high 88 percent Bargain Rating.
