Sunday NFL Divisional Playoffs – Two Things to Know
Cincinnati vs. Buffalo (-5.5, O/U 49.5)
The Bengals head to Buffalo to take on the Bills in this huge matchup. With Joe Burrow and Josh Allen both playing lights-out, the winner of this game might have what it takes to win the championship. This is the first playoff matchup between teams with 8+ game winning streaks, so both teams come in red-hot. The Bengals have shown they have a defense to match their prolific offense, creating takeaways and stopping the run in many of their games. Same with Buffalo, though. Their front four should have no problem pressuring Joe Burrow due to the patchwork, injury-decimated offensive line.
Buffalo may be slightly favored for this reason and the fact they are playing at home, which will help, particularly with Damar Hamlin making a miraculous recovery from his scary injury. His potential appearance at the game will motivate the team and its fans even more, which could be enough to put them over the top. Or maybe not. We’ve learned never to count Joe Burrow out, and we won’t this time either. The spread is a tough call, so player props may be the way to go on this one. Receiving and passing yards will easily go Over if the game ends up in a shootout.
Dallas at San Francisco (-3.5, O/U 46.5)
The last game of the weekend is the biggest one from a hype perspective. As far as television ratings go, no team is more popular than the Cowboys, and the 49ers aren’t far behind. A playoff meeting between the two teams will obviously be a ratings hit, but will it be a good game? After all, the 49ers have won 11 in a row and seem unstoppable. Brock Purdy proved that he is no fluke by easily dispatching the Seahawks last week, and the San Francisco defense is dominant. San Fran is the team to beat.
Can Dallas beat them? Yes! Dallas has a dominant defense of their own, led by All-World DE Micah Parsons. If he has a good game, which he will, Dallas has a chance to win even if Dak Prescott doesn’t follow up his terrific game against Tampa Bay with another one in California. San Fran being at home isn’t a huge advantage, which is probably why the spread isn’t higher. There is big money coming in on Dallas +3.5 for good reason. But even if you consider the defenses of equal caliber, San Fran has a few more offensive weapons. It’s hard to see Dallas replicating their performance against Tampa Bay against this 49ers team that is exponentially better than the Bucs.
