NFL Divisional Round Preview – Four Thoughts on Four Games
Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs (-8.5, O/U 52.5)
- Everyone knows that Jacksonville came back from 27-0 to defeat the Chargers. It was the talk of the NFL world. That was nice for the Jaguars, but the games get A LOT harder from here on out. Are they good enough to go on the road and win in Kansas City? Unsurprisingly, most say no. The Chiefs had a week off to rest and are always hard to beat at home. The Jaguars have had a good year, but they have also had some luck go their way. Can they create at least one turnover and make the most of their limited opportunities? Sure, it’s possible. Kansas City has a great offense but also gives up a lot of points. And they don’t lose at home often, but it does happen. Still, it’s really hard to see the Jaguars putting together a complete game and taking down the Chiefs. Chiefs -8.5 might turn out to be a bargain.
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles (-7.5, O/U 48.5)
- The Giants played extremely well last week in Minnesota. They were the better team on both offense and defense and earned their road win. Minnesota of course made their share of mistakes, but we have to give the Giants credit for playing a complete game. Can they do it again, this time in Philadelphia? Yes, they definitely can. Playoff games between teams in the same division are different because the teams are familiar with each other. It’s very hard to beat a team three times in one season. The Giants are well-coached and will have a game plan capable of taking down the Eagles. However, the Eagles had a week off to prepare and they are also well-coached. Will Jalen Hurts continue his MVP-caliber performance in the postseason? Most likely, but the Giants have a defense capable of keeping this game close. We expect sharp money to be taking the Giants and the 7.5 points.
Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills (-5.5, O/U 48.5)
- Both teams have had terrific seasons, and it sure seems like the winner of this game could win the championship. This game might be the best one of the weekend. Thankfully, Bills defender Damar Hamlin is recovering from his injury and has even visited the team at its practice facility this week. His presence will no doubt motivate the Bills beyond the usual motivation of a playoff appearance, but will it be enough to overcome Joe Burrow and the rest of the Bengals offense? After all, they are pretty motivated as well, wanting to show the league that they are good enough to not only make the Super Bowl again, but win it this time. It may come down to who has the ball last, so the Over might be a good play with these two star QBs battling back and forth.
Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers (-3.5, O/U 46.5)
- Divisional weekend wraps up with what is sure to be the game that garners the highest television ratings. Will it be the most entertaining game? Actually, yes, it might be. Dallas looked legit on Monday, totally overpowering the Bucs. The Cowboys have themselves an awesome defense, led by All-Pro Micah Parsons. Even with a limited running attack and the usual inconsistent play of Dak Prescott, the Cowboys defense keeps the team in every game. On the other hand, the 49ers have an even better defense, and their offense has more weapons. If rookie QB Brock Purdy has a bad game, all he has to do is hand off to Deebo Samuel or Christian McCaffrey, both of whom are more than capable of scoring at any time. The 49ers have more talent, but the Cowboys still have a good chance of pulling off the upset. With these two elite defenses on the field, the Under deserves a long look, especially if you aren’t sure which team you like to win.
