Existing Sports Betting Resources on ESPN
Before ESPN BET was announced in early August, ESPN still had their hands in the sports betting world with various platforms and resources.
ESPN PickCenter is probably the most well-known of them all, giving football fans another tool in their arsenal for making picks. It was also a useful tool for ESPN insiders to get an in-depth look at theoretical models of what teams would come out on top each week.
ESPN also has betting lines and daily lines, complete with odds and spreads, though these have never had the sophistication or in-depth waging features that the official ESPN BET sportsbook does.

NFL Betting on ESPN BET
Since ESPN is the world’s largest sports network, it easily has what it takes to become the world’s largest and most successful sports betting platform as well.
A key contributor to its success will likely be its ability to deliver an exceptional NFL experience. With NFL already being the biggest sport in the United States, ESPN BET has become a popular place for fans to place wagers.
In addition to a competitive welcome bonus that you can use on NFL markets, you’ll appreciate competitive NFL odds and NFL live streaming that lets see the results of your wagers in real time.
Daily Fantasy Sports on ESPN BET
Fans of ESPN’s current fantasy sports are already used to the website’s functionality for creating DFS and season-long fantasy sports teams. ESPN Fantasy competes with Yahoo! Fantasy and Sleeper Fantasy.
Despite ESPN being a popular resource for fantasy NFL, fantasy baseball and fantasy basketball, fans have never really considered ESPN’s DFS functionality to be on par with something like the DraftKings sportsbook or the FanDuel sportsbook. With ESPN BET, fans of daily fantasy sports contests or DFS events may eventually see a proper upgrade of these features.
ESPN leagues and rankings are another feature that’s expected to be seamlessly integrated into the ESPN BET sportsbook app and platform. These features are so universal and respected by sports fans everywhere that you don’t even need to be deep into the online sports betting world to appreciate the information they offer.
With all of the money and effort that ESPN is putting into ESPN BET, it’s quite likely that this will become a new pillar for this sports network, reinventing how sports bettors engage with their favorite fantasy sports leagues and teams.

ESPN BET Bet Types
Having multiple bet types is important to the quality of any sports betting institution, especially for keeping new and existing customers of all kinds for as long as possible.
Like its competition, ESPN BET sportsbook offers all the biggest bet types, including spread bets, futures, prop bets, teasers, moneylines, parlays and custom parlays. Many of these bet types are considered the bread and butter of any reputable bet sportsbook. They are just as important for keeping long-term customers and users as bonus bets, bonus codes, and bet promo code offers are for attracting new customers to the user base.
Alternate Player Props
ESPN BET is one of the only sportsbooks to allow users to bet alternate player prop unders in same game parlays. Most sportsbooks only allow you to bet the upside – a player for 50+ yards, at increased prices. However, in those books, you can’t capture a player’s downside because you’re forced to bet only the under on their standard prop line.
However, you won’t have an unlimited number of options. You can’t bet Patrick Mahomes under 25.5 passing yards at 100-1, and hope he gets injured. After the situation with Draymond Green starting a game to honor teammate Klay Thompson, then immediately subbing out, which cost DraftKings millions, sportsbooks have tried to avoid this.
But it’s definitely a step in the right direction that you can take some alternate unders.
Players to Not Score
In the great debate about sportsbook refunds, in which bettors argue that if you don’t like getting burned by player injuries when betting props, you should bet unders instead, they forget that in most cases you can’t bet the unders.
This makes ESPN BET one of the few on the market, and the only one among the major U.S. sportsbooks in double-digit states, that allow you to bet players to not score TDs or not score in the NHL.
Most sportsbooks don’t let you bet things to not happen – players to not score a goal, players to not score a touchdown. Most bettors want to bet on things to happen, but it’s unique to see a sportsbook give you the option to bet the other side.
Boosts
Every sportsbook offers some kind of boosted odds on pre-determined markets. Some are bad, some are horrible, and only a few are worth betting blindly.
After the first weekend, it was definitely a blend. Twitter accounts that calculate the value of every NFL boost found that two of the nine NFL boosts on Sunday were +EV and worth betting.
That’s better than most sportsbooks!
Teasers
Teaser pricing has been getting worse at most sportsbooks, to the point where what was once a mathematical advantage has practically vanished because the prices have increased substantially.
To make a six-point, two-team teaser work, the price has to be -115 or better. You can find -120 at DraftKings still.
At ESPN BET, you’ll most likely want to avoid betting NFL teasers altogether. They use dynamic teaser pricing, meaning depending on the types of lines you include in your teaser, the pricing will change.
- Tease an under from 40.5 to 46.5 and the Jets from +7.5 to +13.5, which is not an optimal teaser? +101
- Tease the Commanders from -8.5 to -2.5 and the Lions from -7.5 to -1.5? -171
At DraftKings, which doesn’t use dynamic pricing on teasers, you can bet that exact same teaser at -120 instead of -171.
Depositing and Withdrawing Funds
One of the most important factors of convenience for any bet sportsbook platform is allowing users to withdraw and deposit funds through as many options as possible. ESPN BET offers a diverse list of options for users to move their cash around.
These options include wire transfers, credit cards, debit cards, ACH/e-check, Skrill, Venmo, Online banking, and PayPal. Of course, some of these payment options are limited by region or state, so make sure to double-check your own state’s rules and regulations on the payment or transfer methods you prefer to use.
Payment & Processing
Many users also experienced delayed payouts on ESPN BET’s opening weekend. One withdraw took more than two days to process, which is within the stock timeline most sportsbooks give you but is well outside what’s become normal in U.S. sports betting.
Users on Twitter complained about the inconsistency of payouts, receiving certain payouts instantly and others still pending after two days.
Other users complained about account verification time, as they needed to wait 4-5 days to join the platform while customer support reviewed their supporting documents and verified their account.
These things are expected to improve as signups and registrations slow following ESPN BET’s opening weekend, but it doesn’t encourage a ton of confidence for users who expect near-instant verification and payouts.
ESPN BET User Features
Every sportsbook has unique features that either increase or hinder the usability of their app. In most cases, your average sportsbook will have the standard features that are essential for every sports bettor. However, ESPN BET does provide some unique elements that are worth highlighting.
Betting Limits
Some ESPN BET users were disappointed to find out that if they were “limited” – meaning they could only bet minimal amounts because they were deemed an experienced bettor. If previously with PENN, those limitations carried over to ESPN BET.
This is especially true for playing boosts, which can get a player limited relatively quickly if you’re only betting the most profitable boosts. Notably, with previous PENN products, only betting the +EV boosts can get you limited pretty quickly as well.
Organization
In terms of organization, ESPN BET is moderate for American sportsbooks. At times, it can be difficult to find specific markets, because they’re located on top of each other as you navigate.
For example, if you want to bet player blocked shots in the NHL, you need to scroll to the very bottom through every single prop. On DraftKings, they have a second-tier menu where you can easily navigate to each prop category without a long, extended scroll.
The user experience of the app is very engaging. It moves fast, it’s easy to find your existing bets, and the search function is highly accessible.
