The PGA Weekend Breakdown offers data-driven analysis for the DraftKings weekend slate, using the FantasyLabs Tools and metrics to highlight notable players.
Birds Of Prey
Birdies are essential to success in DraftKings weekend golf games. If some dude goes six- or seven-under par in one of the weekend rounds and is not on your roster, you’ll have a difficult time taking down a large-field guaranteed prize pool. Using our Birdie Differential metric is a great way to target players who have made more birdies recently.
Last week, our ‘Birds of Prey’ — the five golfers highlighted based off of our Birdie Differential metric — averaged 32.4 DraftKings points.
Return Engagement
With the top Birdie Differential remaining in the field, Bud Cauley ($8,900) starts the weekend at even par thanks to a bogey-free, four-birdie round on Friday. Cauley drained nine birdies and scored 34 DraftKings points in last weekend’s slate. His 18.3 Recent Adjusted Birdies Per Tournament (Adj Bird Avg) leads the field. Cauley is a top-10 golfer in both the Bales and CSURAM88 Player Models this week.
Hair
Ollie Schniederjans ($7,700) also enters the weekend six shots off the lead at even par after firing a one-under-par 69 on Friday. Ollie has the second-best Birdie Differential remaining in the field, and his 17.7 Recent Adj Bird Avg ranks second as well. Ollie accumulated eight birdies in last weekend’s slate on his way to a respectable 31 DraftKings points.
Son of Bob
At two under par and just four shots of the lead, Kevin Tway ($7,700) appears to be ready to make some noise on the weekend. Tway totaled nine birdies and had a bonus birdie streak of three to provide a chunky 38.25 DraftKings points in last weekend’s slate. Tway’s 310.8-yard Long-Term Driving Distance (LT DD) gives him the ability to card an all important weekend eagle on both of the two Par-5 holes here at Colonial.
In the Navy
Somewhat surprisingly, Billy Hurley III ($7,400) has the fourth-best Birdie Differential remaining in the field this week. Hurley’s 15.4 Recent Adj Bird Avg ranks ninth overall and is nearly four full birdies better than his LT average of 11.5 per tournament. Hurley has carded seven birdies through the first two rounds to get to one over par entering the weekend.
Sweet Harmany
Brian Harman ($7,800) enters the weekend at two under par, looking for his second win in his last three tournaments. Harman’s 16.7 Recent Adj Bird Avg is fifth overall, and his 68.0 Recent Adj Round Score ranks fourth. When Harman finished T25 here last year, he fired two rounds of 68 on the weekend.
The Bump and Run
Choke up and take a narrow stance.
Sergio Garcia ($9,700): Garcia enters the weekend just one shot off the lead at five under par. Sergio’s 17.0 Recent Adj Bird Avg is the third-highest score remaining in the field. Garcia has posted nine birdies through the first two rounds in very difficult conditions.
Emiliano Grillo ($7,900): One of the favorite plays of the high-stakes players according to our DFS Ownership Dashboard, Grillo has posted an uninspiring five birdies to get to one over par. That said, he is tied with Phil Mickelson for the fourth-highest LT Adj Bird Avg in the field at 14.8.
Chris Stroud ($7,200): Going off in the first group on Saturday, Stroud is no stranger to strong finishes here at Colonial. Save for a missed cut in 2015, Stroud has finished 14th or better at this event in four of the last five years. Last year he shot a 64 on Saturday to get to his T13 finishing position. Stroud’s 7.3 Recent Adj Bird Avg is ridiculously low, but he’s already made six birdies through the first two days here.
