DraftKings Stack Attack, Week 14: Aiming High with Projected Ceilings

Week 13 had some great success with our stacks as each one hit and hopefully helped you continue building your bankroll.

However, in the world of NFL DFS, we’ve got to move on quickly and start researching what potential matchups we can exploit in Week 14. Looking at what potential stacks to anchor your roster around can be a great way to start that research.

Taking a look at Fantasy Labs’ Projected Plus/Minus (which is the player’s projected points minus salary-based expected points) we can see which players — if everything goes right for them — have the best chance of highly exceeding their expected score and skyrocketing you up GPP leaderboards. We typically utilize stacks more commonly in GPPs, as they have the potential to vault your score above the competition if both players hit, subsequently leading to big payouts. If we pair two players with positive correlation and both players have high a Projected Plus/Minus, well, now we’re on to something.

Here’s a look at some possible DraftKings GPP stacks to utilize in Week 14 and their corresponding Plus/Minus, available here.

1) Blake Bortles (QB) and Allen Robinson (WR)

Week 14 has the Indianapolis Colts traveling to Jacksonville, facing a hungry Jaguars team that just narrowly missed winning in last week’s 42-39 shootout with the Titans. Blake Bortles has been slinging the rock like a mad man recently, hitting the 300-yard mark in both of his last games and scoring seven total touchdowns in the process. The Colts are giving up the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks on the season, and only four other teams have allowed more passing touchdowns than the Colts. Bortles enters this matchup with the third-highest projected fantasy points of the week at 22.3 points. He also has one of the highest ceilings this week with 32.3 fantasy points and a Projected Plus/Minus of +7.7, fourth-highest of the week. Early Vegas lines have this game as a pick-em, and with Jacksonville throwing with the seventh-highest passing play percentage in the league over their last three games (66.3% of the time), we could see a ton of volume from Bortles and company.

Last week led to a career day for Jacksonville’s Allen Robinson as he set career highs across the board with 10 receptions on 15 targets for 153 yards and three touchdowns. Teammate Allen Hurns has been cleared from concussion protocols for this week, but this should be seen in a positive light with attention not being solely focused on Robinson. Coverage from Vontae Davis did not force Bortles to shy away from Robinson in their earlier Week 4 matchup, as Robinson saw 12 targets that day picking up 80 yards in the process. Only Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. have scored more DraftKings fantasy points over their last five games than Allen Robinson, who enters this matchup red-hot. Robinson is projected to put up 18.9 fantasy points in this game, but has a projected ceiling of 25.7 fantasy points — both seventh highest among wide receivers this week. The Colts are giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, and stacking Blake Bortles with Allen Robinson could lead to another monster outing in GPPs. Taking it one step further, adding Allen Hurns to the stack could provide an even more unique roster construction as Hurns has scored in seven of his last nine games.

2) Ben Roethlisberger (QB) and Antonio Brown (WR)

The Steelers travel to Cincinnati in this week’s second-highest projected scoring game with a projected point total of 49.5 points. Pittsburgh enters as three-point underdogs in this one, which could lead to plenty of volume for Ben Roethlisberger and company against their AFC North rival. Big Ben has averaged over 30 fantasy points in his last four outings and will look to make it a fifth this week. Roethlisberger is projected to put up the eighth-most fantasy points this week at 21.1 points and possesses a ceiling of up to 31.2 fantasy points. His Projected Plus/Minus of +4.6 is 14th-best this week, as his salary has seen a $200 spike after last week’s four-touchdown performance. We’ve seen Roethlisberger capable of putting up big numbers in Todd Haley’s offense, and could see it again this week if Pittsburgh is forced to pass to keep pace with Cincinnati.

Pairing Ben Roethlisberger with the league’s most productive wideout in Antonio Brown provides a ceiling of being able to take down GPP’s in nearly any given week. Brown has been on a tear once again this season, averaging 10.3 receptions for 148 yards and 1.25 touchdowns in his last four games. Brown leads all receivers this week in projected points (25.4) and projected ceiling (34.3), and even with an $8,900 price tag, Brown still has a positive Projected Plus/Minus of +3.3. Not only is there incredible potential for points from stacking Brown with Roethlisberger, but you can also get a nice bonus from ancillary pieces of the offense in Martavis Bryant and his big-play ability. Brown has the second most Pro Trends this week (8) favoring him in what has the potential to be the league’s highest-scoring stack of the week.

3) Thomas Rawls (RB) and Seattle D/ST

Thomas Rawls and the Seattle Seahawks travel to 4-8 Baltimore this week and are riding high after winning their last three games with some big offensive outings. Rawls has seen over 25 touches per game since being anointed the starter after Lynch’s injury in his last three games. Over that time span, nobody else has rushed more than Seattle, who have run the ball on 53.5% of their plays. Rawls is projected for 17.3 fantasy points in this road matchup but could hit a ceiling of up to 23.0 fantasy points, both seventh-highest among running backs this week. His Projected Plus/Minus of +4.6 is tied for the eighth-highest this week given his $5,800 price tag. Given the volume we can expect from Rawls and the potential game script against Baltimore, Rawls represents one of the highest upside fantasy points-per-dollar plays among running backs this week.

Stacking Rawls with the Seattle D/ST makes for a terrific correlation play this week against a shaky Baltimore offense. Vegas lines are still unsure of what to make of the game given the cloudy reports of either Matt Schaub or Jimmy Clausen starting, but early books have the Seahawks as six-point favorites to start. That number should only increase if the Ravens are forced to play their third-string quarterback that they just signed two weeks ago. Seattle has actually been performing better on the road this season, allowing fewer points and total yards while scoring more fantasy points. Seattle’s D/ST is projected for the seventh-highest fantasy points this week at 8.5 points, but has the fifth-highest ceiling of up to 16.7 points. In his two games starting for the Ravens, Schaub has thrown pick-sixes in both games, allowing the opposing defense to score a touchdown. Rookie Tyler Lockett also presents a dynamic threat capable of returning any kickoff or punt back for six points. Seattle’s D/ST ability to shut down opposing offenses on the road and their potential to reach the end zone makes for another terrific matchup against Baltimore this week. Stacking them with Thomas Rawls — who is seeing 82% of the backfield touches — makes for a great stack in Week 14.

Contrarian Stack: Tyrod Taylor (QB) and Sammy Watkins (WR)

The Bills travel to Philadelphia this week to take on a sky high Eagles team that just defeated the Patriots up in Foxboro. The Bills enter as 1.5-point favorites according to early lines, in one of this week’s highest projected scoring games. Tyrod Taylor has been putting up points in a hurry as of late, averaging over 28 fantasy points in his last two outings and now takes on one of the league’s worst secondaries. The Eagles are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and the second-most passing touchdowns on the season. Taylor enters with the sixth-highest projected score among quarterbacks this week at 21.5, but the fourth-highest ceiling at 33.8. At a soft price of just $5,400, Taylor presents one of the highest upside players of the week with a Projected Plus/Minus of +8.4 (second-highest).

Stacking Taylor with his top wideout in Sammy Watkins presents some terrific upside. It’s not a coincidence that Taylor has been red-hot as of late, as Watkins has surpassed the 100-yard plateau in each of the past two weeks while scoring three total touchdowns. The two have been connecting well recently, but this stack presents a bit more risk due to the lack of target volume Watkins sees. However, the upside is there in a positive matchup as the Eagles are giving up the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Eric Rowe and Byron Maxwell have had a tough time defending perimeter receivers, which is where Watkins has lined up on 85% of his routes according to PFF. Watkins enters the week as a top-12 option, ranking 11th in both projected points (17.9) and ceiling (24.4) – numbers he’s plenty capable of eclipsing after averaging 29.9 fantasy points in his last two games. Pairing Taylor with Watkins isn’t necessarily an outside-the-box type stack, but it’s an opportunity to strike on a good matchup that some people may be fading due to volume concerns.
