NBA Trend of the Day: Back-To-Backs

We truly believe here at FantasyLabs that we have the most unique tools and data available to DFS users. However, we also realize that those tools and data are only as awesome and helpful as our ability to effectively communicate how to use everything. As such, we will continually listen to feedback of what you need and try our best to teach our subscribers how to use all of the cool things we have to offer.

With this in mind, we’ve begun a “Trend of the Day” series. Every weekday we’ll walk our subscribers through an important trend for that day’s slate of games.

On this smaller five-game slate, we have two teams playing on the road on the tail end of a back-to-back. Because each of these teams – the Bucks and the Raptors – have a number of relevant DFS options, I thought it fitting that for today’s trend we examine how teams have fared in similar circumstances in the past.

Trend: Road team on the second leg of a back-to-back

Step 1: Time Filters > B2B > Select “2A”

This gives us our base population and we could certainly stop here, but there’s a lot of noise (meaningless or irrelevant data) included with this population. I want to add a couple of layers to this trend to ensure I’m looking at a comparable population. Specifically, both the Raptors and the Bucks will be playing on the West Coast tonight. Additionally, I’m interested in how the options priced at $7,000 or above have performed, as the players I’m considering targeting are all priced at or above this point.

Step 2: Player Filters > Salary > Set “7000 to 13200”

Step 3: Team Filters > Opposing Division > Select “NBA Northwest” and “NBA Pacific”

And now time to view our results!

The Plus/Minus of -0.97 is far from ideal and only reinforces my initial inclination that the second game of a back-to-back on the West Coast is not necessarily a situation to which you’d want heavy exposure.

Now let’s take a look at the current matches on tonight’s slate:

You could take this a step further and remove the few teams from the Northwest division that aren’t truly located in the west if you wished by doing this: Team Filters > Opposing Team> Select the west coast teams one by one. The beauty of the Trends tool is that the level of customization you wish to achieve is truly up to the user.

That’ll wrap up today’s Trend of the Day. As always, send any questions or feedback our way. Again, this series is aimed at helping you utilize our tools in a way that will allow you to turn a profit on a consistent basis. If there’s a way we could be doing that better, we certainly want to know.
