NBA Trend of the Day: Cheap Players With High Minutes and High Usage

We truly believe here at FantasyLabs that we have the most unique tools and data available to DFS users. However, we also realize that those tools and data are only as awesome and helpful as our ability to effectively communicate how to use everything. As such, we will continually listen to feedback of what you need and try our best to teach our subscribers how to use all of the cool things we have to offer.

With this in mind, we’ve begun a “Trend of the Day” series. Every weekday we’ll walk our subscribers through an important trend for that day’s slate of games.

It’s a little tough to find a really unique trend on a two-game slate like tonight, but I think I might have something for you. Of course, there are all sorts of trends we can set up to show why Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Davis are good plays, but let’s look for some value instead.

Trend: Cheap Players with High Minutes and High Usage

Step 1: Player Filters > Salary > Set “3000 to 6900”

trend1

Here, I am defining a “cheap” player as less than $7,000 on DraftKings. Next, let’s find players who are projected to play a good amount of minutes (30+).

Step 2: Projections > Proj Minutes > Set “30 to 48”

trend2

And finally, let’s set a usage rate minimum — we’ll go with 24% or higher.

Step 3: Projections > Proj Usage > Set “24 to 35”

trend3

Now that we have our filters in place, let’s look at our Plus/Minus result:

trend4

The Plus/Minus here is +3.08, which is a solid find for a two-game slate where everyone will be looking at the same core of players. Finally, let’s look at the current matches and see who might be a good, if even sneaky, play tonight.

trend5

We have two matches for tonight — Norris Cole and Bradley Beal. And given the PG studs playing tonight in Westbrook and John Wall, Norris Cole could be a really nice pivot to 1) get in Davis, Durant, and one of the high-priced PGs, and 2) to create a unique lineup, if that’s possible tonight. Given the awful options at SG tonight, Beal will be very highly owned anyway, but perhaps this should solidify locking him in as a core play and mixing around him.

Good luck tonight and talk to you next week when NBA resumes!
