CS:GO DFS Projections for Saturday, April 18: DraftKings Introduces New Scoring Rules

DraftKings has introduced a new scoring format ahead of today’s CS:GO slate. Here are the changes to be aware of:

  • Game Length Adjustment (GLA) has been removed and replaced by a Rounds Not Played bonus. Instead of scaling a player’s fantasy production up or down based on his scoring rate through rounds played, players will now be awarded a flat 0.5-point bonus for rounds not played. Also, while teams were penalized for playing more than 30 rounds in a set under the previous format, there is no overtime penalty under the new scoring rules.
  • DraftKings will now award a five-point Sweep Bonus to players whose teams win a best-of-three match 2-0 or a best-of-five match 3-0.

My initial impression is that the new scoring format makes the fourth- and fifth-best players on strong teams more valuable. Under the previous scoring format, these players would not receive the same bonus points as their teammates because GLA was based on fantasy production over rounds played. Under the new rules, all team members will receive the same Rounds Not Played and Sweep flat bonuses.

CS:GO Notes for Saturday, April 18

  • Today’s docket features four mismatches, as all favored teams are currently listed with moneylines between -375 and -590. Keeping in mind the new scoring format, the cheaper players on these favored teams look like strong options. Leading this group is dazzLe of Bad News Bears. Although you may be unfamiliar with Bad News Bears, you’ll recognize their roster if you’ve played CS:GO over the past couple weeks, as four of the five teammates had been previously playing with FunPlus Phoenix. The only difference between the two rosters is dazzLe taking the spot previously occupied by crashies, who had accounted for 20.5% of FPX’s team kills and 15.8% of team assists. If dazzLe is able to match crashies’ rates, he’ll be a great value today at $5,400.
  • Staying with Bad News Bears, dapr and jonji have the top two overall projection values on today’s slate. Dapr leads the slate with a 24% share of team kills, while jonji makes up for an average 20% share of team kills with a strong 24.4% share of team assists.
  • Calyx of Envy is the most expensive player on the slate at $9,400, but his projection trails dapr’s by more than 10 points, despite comparable kill shares and odds to win between the two. The discrepancy in projections is driven by recent team kill numbers, where Bad News Bears have averaged nearly a half-kill more per round than Envy of late. Still, because the betting markets are not expecting Recon 5 to put up much of a fight today against Envy, it’s easy to envision a scenario where Calyx winds up as the top scorer on the slate when it’s all said and done.
