Best bet idea for Saturday’s Elite Eight slate

This Elite Eight matchup should be one of the most fun games of the NCAA Tournament. Both teams have had outstanding runs thus far, but only one can advance to the Final Four. Here’s a deeper look.

Gonzaga has had an incredible dramatic road thus far. After outlasting a feisty Grand Canyon team in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, they then had to play a tough Big 12 team in TCU. It was a close game throughout, but Gonzaga got the last laugh, winning by three points. Then, most recently, they played a title-driven UCLA team in the Sweet 16.

In that game, there were multiple times where it looked like their journey was coming to an end. UCLA got out to a huge lead in the first half and just simply looked like a much, much better team. Tyger Campbell was playing well, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. was a tough guy to match up with. But in the second half, the game flipped on its head. Gonzaga took complete control of the game and looked unstoppable behind Drew Timme’s offense.

Late in the game, though, Gonzaga’s shaky guard play started to show and UCLA made a big run in the final minute, even taking the lead with 13 seconds remaining. But, Gonzaga’s Julian Strawther made the biggest shot of the tournament, sinking a deep three on the next possession to give Gonzaga the dramatic win. That energy is tough to deny. They have a ton of momentum heading into Saturday’s game. But UConn will pose a unique challenge.

The Huskies have a super-talented frontcourt (and a deep one at that). They’ll have multiple bodies to throw at Timme and make life difficult on him. Without Timme having an MVP-level performance, I don’t think the Zags have a chance in this one. UConn has dominated every game they’e played in the NCAA Tournament thus far, and while Gonzaga is the best team they’ll have played thus far, UConn still has the guard play and big-man defense to overpower what Gonzaga brings to the table. I love UConn to cover the spread.
