Despite having arguably the most talented baseball player of all time on their roster — Shohei Ohtani — The Angels are just a decent team. They’ve been hovering right around .500 for pretty much the entire season, and if things shake out in their favor, they could have a shot to make the playoffs.

Because of Ohtani’s presence, they’re often a public favorite for betting and it’s completely understandable. Ohtani is one of the easiest guys to root for in all of sports, and baseball fans want him and his team to succeed. This game is cause for concern, however.

Pirates-Angels Preview

The Pirates have been subpar to say the least. Let’s get that out there right now. They had a brilliant month of play earlier in the season that inspired some hope, but since then, they’ve been relatively abominable. When you see the lines for the Pirates, you usually should run in the opposite direction. In this game, though, the pitching favors the Pirates heavily.

Mitch Keller is slated to take the mound for the Pirates on Sunday afternoon and he’s been their best player by far this season, boasting a 9-5 record with a 3.73 ERA. He’s good enough to will the Pirates to random victories whenever he can get a semi-decent offensive night behind him.

The Angels, on the other hand, are slated to throw out Tyler Anderson, the 33-year-old veteran from Las Vegas, and he’s had a rough season. His 4-2 record is a bit of a red herring. His 5.17 ERA is a much better indicator of where he’s at as a pitcher. Even more interesting: The Angels have lost their last four games that Anderson has started.
