This series uses the FantasyLabs Tools to analyze three key MLB players in the day’s slate. The series does not provide play or fade recommendations. It provides analysis.
Jordan Montgomery: Pitcher, Yankees
Montgomery is one of the top pitchers in the Bales Model and is especially cheap at $7,500 on FanDuel, where he has an 87 percent Bargain Rating. A small favorite with -120 moneyline odds (per our Vegas Dashboard), Montgomery is facing the Athletics, who are implied for 4.1 runs — the slate’s third-lowest total. His K Prediction of 6.6 isn’t great, but it’s the fourth-highest mark in the slate, and pitchers with similar K Predictions and Bargain Ratings have historically provided good Plus/Minus value on FanDuel (per our Trends tool):
Averaging 46.0 FanDuel points over his last two starts, Montgomery has solid recent Statcast data with a batted ball distance of 188 feet and hard hit rate of 26 percent.
Corey Seager: Shortstop, Dodgers
Batting second for the Dodgers, who are implied for 4.9 runs, Seager enters his matchup against Indians righty Josh Tomlin in excellent form with a recent batted ball distance of 230 feet, an exit velocity of 94 mph, and a hard hit rate of 48 percent. On top of that, Seager is on the positive side of his splits with a .207 ISO, and he’s been productive over his last 10 games:
Out of all the day’s starting pitchers, Tomlin has a slate-worst HR/9 of 1.805 over the last 12 months, and his Statcast data is horrible with a recent batted ball distance of 225 feet, an exit velocity of 94 mph, and hard hit rate of 51 percent.
Ian Kinsler: Second Baseman, Tigers
With our Lineup Builder, it’s easy to incorporate stacks into DFS rosters. The Tigers have several of the top stacks on DraftKings, and as the leadoff man Kinsler is a core member of each with the main slate’s third-highest recent batted ball distance of 258 feet. The Tigers are third in the slate with 5.1 runs and a Team Value Rating of 82:
Facing Rays righty Alex Cobb, who has a slate-worst recent batted ball distance of 253 feet as well as a 1.493 WHIP and 1.353 HR/9 over the last 12 months, Kinsler is likely to have an elevated ownership rate, which Pro subscribers can review in our DFS Ownership Dashboard.
