At FantasyLabs, we believe that we have the best daily fantasy sports tools and data available. We also realize that these tools and data are only as beneficial as our ability to communicate their functionality and worth.
With this in mind, our Trend of the Day series features articles that walk subscribers each weekday through an important trend, created with our free Trends tool. Also, shortly after you create a trend, you will be able to see it under the “My Trends” column in our Player Models.
MLB Trend of the Day: Power Hitters With High Pro Trends
Our trends don’t always need to be wildly intricate and detailed to find actionable results. Sometimes simple trends based on intuition can help us find new ways to discover players potentially on the precipice of a great game.
Pro Trends are situations we’ve identified that historically lead to value. Power hitters are also very valuable in MLB DFS. What happens when we combine those?
Step 1: Trends > Pro Trends > 7 to 13
Setting a baseline of at least seven Pro Trends on FanDuel, we can see our Plus/Minus is at a strong +2.05. It’s important to note that Pro Trends are site specific.
Step 2: Stat Split Filters > ISO Split > 0.25 to 1.5
An ISO split of 0.250 is perhaps on the high end, but that’s exactly what we’re looking for here.
Step 3: Advanced Stats – Recent > Hard-Hit Differential Score > 40 to 100
Looking at a player’s hard-hit differential can help us identify players seeing the ball well currently.
Results
Putting it all together, we get a trend that adds +2.49 fantasy points with a 47.1 percent Consistency mark.
Current Matches
Our trend found six active matches with three of those players projected to start tonight.
Adam Duvall is currently the top-rated player in the Bales 2016 Model on FanDuel. His 10 Pro Trends tie for the lead among all hitters tonight against the struggling Matt Wisler (4.47 ERA).
Colorado’s Ryan Raburn is slated to bat sixth tonight at Coors Field in tonight’s highest Vegas-implied run total of 6.2. His 50 percent hard-hit rate and 96-MPH exit velocity could spell trouble for lefty Drew Smyly given his 1.65 HR/9 rate.
Nelson Cruz draws a tough assignment against Chris Sale, but he does have a 97 percent Bargain Rating at FanDuel.
