My purpose today isn’t to uncover any top secrets or review a groundbreaking trend; I’m just here to provide a resource that should be instrumental in all of your big DFS wins going forward.
I scoured the internet for any sort of tool that would tell me which hitters were most likely to hit a home run and when. It turns out that list didn’t exist until now.
I used ISO splits to rank the top power hitters in the game and form a convenient list that Fantasy Labs users can do with as they please. So save it, bookmark it, print it out because you’ll want to reference this before every tournament.
In many ways, this ISO Index is the code to GPP success. ISO, or Isolated Power, is the measurement of a hitter’s power in terms of extra bases. It can be calculated by dividing a hitters extra bases / at-bats, which is essentially equivalent to a weighted formula for extra-base hits.
With DraftKings awarding a minimum of 14 points per HR, it is beyond essential to put your lineup in the best possible position to collect homers.
FanGraphs rates an “Excellent” ISO as > .250. The following is the list of Excellent ISO performers across 2014-2015:
These players are generally among the most expensive hitters. This list should help to ensure the maximum return from your most expensive investments.
The top four hitters on this list (Stanton, Donaldson, Cruz, and Martinez) all thrive against left-handed pitching. Over the past two seasons, they have combined to homer every 11.4 AB per HR against LHP compared to once every 17.0 ABs when facing RHP. These players are just under 50% more likely to homer when facing southpaws. If you are paying top dollar for top hitters, you might as well look to grab them in their most productive situations.
