College Football DFS Breakdown (Sat. 9/28): Players to Target in Texas Tech-Oklahoma

Week 5 of the college football season is just hours away. DraftKings and FanDuel will stagger the start times of their main slates, beginning at noon ET on DraftKings (11 games) and 3:30 p.m. ET on FanDuel (14 games).

There are six games in common between the two sites:

  • Kentucky at South Carolina (-3), Over/Under: 54 – 7:30 p.m. ET
  • Ohio State (-17) at Nebraska, Over/Under: 66 – 7:30 p.m. ET

Let’s run through a few players to consider at each position as you’re putting together your lineups.

Quarterbacks

Jalen Hurts (Oklahoma): $9,200 DraftKings Only

Hurts leads college passers with a 151.4 Independent Quarterback Rating (IQR), as a result of an 80.3% completion percentage on an 88.5% on target throw rate.

Those numbers rank second and fourth, respectively, among all quarterbacks, behind LSU’s Joe Burrow in each category. Hurts’ on-target throw rate is up 14% over his 2017 season with Alabama, and his yards per attempt has steadily increased from 8.7 to 11.6 and now 14.4 over the past three seasons.

Between Oklahoma’s two games this year against Houston and UCLA, Hurts has scored more than 113 fantasy points on DraftKings, netting 30 carries for 326 yards against the more reputable competition. I wouldn’t read too much into his relatively limited usage in Oklahoma’s 70-14 blowout win over South Dakota.

The Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma game has the highest total on the DraftKings main slate and Hurts’ range of outcomes places him in the rare high floor / high upside tier.
