Week 1 NFL DFS Stacks and Picks

Josh Allen + Khalil Shakir + Dalton Kincaid

  • Josh Allen ($8,000 DraftKings, $9,200 FanDuel)
  • Khalil Shakir ($5,100 DraftKings, $5,400 FanDuel)
  • Dalton Kincaid ($5,800 DraftKings, $6,800 FanDuel)

With many elite quarterbacks playing in island games, Josh Allen leads the slate by a comfortable margin in projected points and ceiling.

Allen used his legs more than ever in 2023, with 15 rushing touchdowns. The dual-threat quarterback also ranked in the top five in both passing attempts and yards. Allen’s ability to accumulate points through the air and on the ground makes him the best quarterback option on the slate.

A home matchup against the Cardinals defense is one of the best ways to start a season. The Cardinals allowed a league-worst 143.2 yards per game on the ground last season and ranked 29th in total points allowed at 26.8 per game. They also gave up 20 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.

The biggest question mark surrounding the Bills is at pass catcher. Stefon Diggs and his 28% target share moved on to Houston, while Gabe Davis also left town. Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid are joined by rookie Keon Coleman and veteran Curtis Samuel. With Samuel dealing with a turf toe issue and Coleman being a rookie, Shakir has a chance to pick up right where he left off last season.

When given the opportunity, Shakir has shown to be a capable target for Allen. Over the last four games, including the Bills’ two playoff games, Shakir averaged a 79% route participation and 16% target share.

At worst, Shakir is going to be on the field running routes against a pitiful Cardinals defense, but he has upside for plenty of easy targets from one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Priced in the mid-range on both sites, Shakir is a great target. He is also significantly cheaper than Coleman on FanDuel. Coleman will get his time to shine, but it is difficult to envision that happening in Week 1.

The highest-owned player in this stack is tight end Dalton Kincaid. That is mainly because, like Allen, there are many top-tier tight ends in island games.

Kincaid had a strong rookie season, ranking second on the team in targets and receptions behind Diggs. He only touched paydirt twice, but Kincaid was Allen’s security blanket. Similar to Shakir, Kincaid finished the season strong, averaging 13.1 DraftKings points per game in his last four games.

To put it simply, there are going to be more opportunities for Shakir and Kincaid in this offense with Diggs and Davis gone. The Bills have the highest implied team total on the slate at 27 points. Given the lower ownership of Allen and Shakir, this is an affordable and fantastic stack in tournaments for Week 1.

The Bills do not need a bring-back in this spot, especially when my favorite would be Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. Putting a tight end in the flex limits a lineup’s upside, so I prefer the stack as is.

Tua Tagovailoa + De’Von Achane + Tyreek Hill

  • Tua Tagovailoa ($7,000 DraftKings, $11,000 FanDuel)
  • De’Von Achane ($6,800 DraftKings, $5,700 FanDuel)
  • Tyreek Hill ($8,700 DraftKings, $5,700 FanDuel)

The Dolphins likely won’t score another 70-burger like last season, but this is an electric spot for another eruption game. They are implied for 26.25 points, which is the second-highest on the slate.

When looking to pay up, Tyreek Hill is the best flex play on the board. His ceiling is two points more than the next closest player (CeeDee Lamb). Hill is coming off a career and league-high 1,799 receiving yards. His rushing numbers depleted, but Hill scored 13 touchdowns and ranked third in air yards.

For Hill to hit his ceiling, Tua Tagovailoa will likely come along for the ride. Tua led the league in passing yards last season in large part to Hill’s production. This duo is not a stranger to starting off the season fast. In last year’s opening game, Hill posted an 11-215-2 receiving line while Tua threw for 466 yards and three touchdowns. Hill scored 47.5 DraftKings points, while Tua tacked on 32 points of his own.

Hill will likely be one of, if not the most popular player on the slate. However, Tua is projected for less than 5% ownership, which makes this an exciting duo in itself.

If the Dolphins are breaking the slate, it is more than likely that running back De’Von Achane is hopping on the bus. Achane, in his rookie year, was a boom-or-bust fantasy producer. However, when he hit, he hit in a huge way. Achane recorded five 25+ DraftKings point games, including one game scoring over 50.

The Dolphins offense may not be well suited for the cold weather games, but early in the year, when the weather is warm, this offense gets cooking. Last year before November, the Dolphins were 6-2 and averaged 33.9 points per game. Now is the time to get exposure to this explosive offense.

The Jaguars defense did not create a lot of pressure in 2023, accumulating only 40 total sacks, which ranked 23rd in the league. They were also near the bottom in fantasy points and yards allowed per game.

Jaylen Waddle is intriguing at $6,300, but my favorite stacking option for this team is adding Achane to the mix. Regardless of how you play it, this offense will put up fireworks in Week 1.

When looking for bring-back options, the Jaguars have several wide receivers who are priced in the mid-range and cheaper. Similar to the Bills, a bring-back isn’t necessary to push this Dolphins offense, but Christian Kirk would be my favorite selection.
